How did your time at Toyota shape your legal leadership at DICV?
My time at Toyota Kirloskar Motor and Toyota Motor Asia Pacific was critical in shaping me into the leader I am today. During my tenure there, I learned that legal leadership is not just about mitigating risks but driving the business forward. Toyota’s ‘kaizen’ philosophy of continuous improvement pushed me to always look ahead, identify potential challenges early, and create legal strategies that are as dynamic as the business itself. Working in diverse regulatory environments taught me how to manage global complexities, and most importantly, how to align legal advice with real business needs. At DICV, I bring the same customer-centric, proactive mindset, ensuring my legal team is a true strategic partner in the company’s growth.
How do you balance legal compliance with business agility in the commercial vehicle sector?
A key part of my role is fostering strong relationships across the business and I firmly believe that balancing compliance with agility is all about integration. We make sure legal and compliance are woven into every business initiative from the start. By collaborating closely with stakeholders, we address potential issues early, allowing us to focus on innovation without delays. Technology is key—tools for real-time regulatory monitoring and automated reporting help us stay quick on our feet while ensuring we’re always compliant. Continuous learning and process improvements keep us adaptable, so our legal framework doesn’t just protect the business but empowers it to innovate confidently. Compliance, for us, is a catalyst for growth, not a constraint.
How do you see legal changes impacting the commercial vehicle industry, and how are you staying prepared?
I see major shifts in the commercial vehicle industry, particularly with stricter emissions regulations, data privacy, and cybersecurity concerns. Environmental policies will continue tightening, and compliance will become more complex. We’re also facing increasing demands for corporate transparency, accountability, and alignment with “Make in India” initiatives. To stay ahead, we focus on staying informed, investing in technology to streamline compliance, and fostering collaboration across departments. By embedding a culture of innovation and compliance, we ensure we’re not just reacting to changes but driving solutions that align with future legal landscapes.
What are the biggest legal challenges in India’s commercial vehicle sector, and how have you addressed them?
The constantly shifting regulatory landscape in India is a major challenge, but we’ve turned it into an advantage by building a system that monitors changes in real time and helps us adapt swiftly. Ensuring our entire network of suppliers and partners meets the same ethical and compliance standards is another hurdle. We’ve created a robust due diligence process, ensuring trust and accountability throughout the chain. Lastly, we’ve taken a proactive approach to litigation by focusing on early detection and conflict resolution, ensuring we’re always ahead of potential issues. Compliance isn’t just a duty—it’s embedded in our company’s DNA.
What is your leadership philosophy, and how do you guide your legal teams through complex issues?
My leadership philosophy is all about integrity, collaboration, and empowering my team to think proactively. When people take ownership of their work and make decisions with transparency, it creates a culture where challenges can be faced head-on, no matter how complex.
I believe integrity is the foundation of everything—it's what builds trust and credibility, not just within the team but across the entire organisation.
The legal landscape is always changing, so I push my team to stay adaptable and resilient. I encourage my team to partner with other departments, understanding their needs and offering legal advice that’s practical and solutiondriven. Ultimately, my goal is to build a motivated, engaged team that’s aligned with both the legal and strategic goals of the company, making us a driving force in its success.
