With over a decade of experience in business development and expansion, you have worked with different multinational companies. We would like to hear about this journey so far.

I started my career in business development twelve years ago, and so far, it has been an incredible adventure. I adore how business development as a function has allowed me to gain a lot of knowledge about who I am, what I’m capable of, and how I can use my abilities to add value. The appeal of business development is that it forces you to think creatively and unconventionally to solve challenges. Additionally, it enables you to discover several skills you had no idea you possessed. The thrill I have each day at work comes from the fact that no two days are the same.

Share your experience working with different trade commissions in India and how it has improved you as a professional.

One of the most fulfilling jobs I have ever had was working for the Trade Commissions of Australia, Singapore, and South Korea. Helping small and medium-sized businesses (especially those from regional areas) flourish in the global market, creating jobs and enhancing community wealth, gives me a great deal of personal happiness. Working with different geographies is a special difficulty because no two markets are the same.

How do you leverage your understanding of the Indian market and consumers to grow and expand the businesses of foreign companies in India?

To grow foreign businesses in India successfully, it’s important to highlight the unique aspects of the Indian market. This requires patience and persistence since India operates on building relationships rather than immediate deals. Spending time in the country is crucial to showing commitment to local players. Understanding India’s rich cultural heritage, spanning over 5,000 years, is essential as it influences daily life and business. The Indian market offers opportunities for arbitrage and first-mover advantages due to its unstructured nature. Given the country’s vast size and potential, it’s crucial to act swiftly and capitalise on the opportunity before the competition intensifies.

How do you approach decisionmaking, and what factors do you consider for important business decisions like mergers and expansions?

At Bio Concepts, we recognise the pivotal role of decision-making in business success. Decisions arise from the imperative to address challenges or explore potential opportunities. To ensure well-informed decisions, we place great importance on acquiring pertinent information and seeking input from key stakeholders. Benefiting from the support of our Australian head office, significant business decisions are predominantly reached through regular discussions and collaborative efforts with my executive team.
Our primary focus lies in aligning with our strategic objectives and fostering sustainable growth in both the short and long term. We meticulously identify the essential factors and individuals involved, reevaluate the utilisation of market intelligence, and leverage data analytics to enhance our decision-making capabilities. This approach has consistently yielded novel market insights, fostering the development of our core competencies and driving superior business outcomes. 

What are your key short- and long-term goals for Bio Concepts?

In India, Bio Concepts prioritises strategic expansion, with a specific focus on establishing our core brand Orthoplex as India’s premier practitioner-only supplement brand. Our immediate objective is to enhance brand awareness. Our broader mission revolves around reducing the burden of chronic disease and fostering a healthier future by providing highly effective nutritional supplements exclusively for Indian Healthcare Practitioners. We take pride in our 40 years of global excellence in nutritional medicine, offering cutting-edge formulations, and serving as leaders in nutraceutical education. Additionally, we seek to establish partnerships with elite sporting bodies and athletes through our HASTA-certified Orthoplex range. HASTA’s rigorous testing covers over 250 prohibited substances, ensuring product integrity.

How do you plan to communicate and reinforce your organisation's vision, especially in lesserexplored markets?

Our initial priority and focus are on developing and establishing our brand in India. We are not rushing to expand into new markets at this stage. While Orthoplex has been available in India for the past 4 years, 2023 is the year we will dramatically increase our activity to achieve our intended goals. We want to reinforce and communicate that Orthoplex is not your ‘run of the mill’ retail brand. It is India’s first Practitioneronly supplement brand, for exclusive use by medical professionals, designed to treat serious health conditions.
