What was the biggest challenge in your IT transformation, and how did you address it?
The most significant challenge in leading the IT transformation at my current organisation was addressing the deeply entrenched practices of a long-standing team. Many members, having been with the company for over 15 years, were accustomed to working in silos with minimal communication and nonstandardised processes. Decision-making was often ad hoc, lacking SOPs, defined KPIs, and cohesive data governance. To overcome this, I prioritised fostering communication and collaboration across locations and introduced standardised 10 Best CTOs in India 2024 26 processes. Training programmes were implemented to help the team adapt to new tools. This approach facilitated a transition from stagnation to active learning. As a result, we centralised processes and negotiated collectively, reducing overhead costs and significantly enhancing operational efficiency.
What drives your innovations, and how do you find new opportunities?
My innovations have been driven by a desire to solve real-world problems and enhance processes. From automating shrimp processing to creating a paperless operation with IoT devices and developing a swift COVID vaccination registration app, my focus has always been on impactful solutions. In my current projects, I identify breakthrough opportunities by deeply understanding industry needs and operational challenges. Listening to stakeholders, observing existing processes, and staying updated on emerging technologies and trends help me spot inefficiencies and envision transformative applications. My approach is to align technological advancements with meaningful improvements for organisations and their users.
How have your travels and diverse project experience influenced your leadership?
My extensive travel and experience across various sectors have profoundly influenced my leadership style and decision-making. Navigating diverse regions and industries has underscored the need for adaptability, allowing me to respond effectively to unique cultural, operational, and industry-specific challenges. This flexibility is vital for leading projects in varied settings. Exposure to different cultures has improved my ability to manage diverse teams, making cultural awareness a key aspect of my decision-making. My cross-sector experience broadens my perspective, enabling innovative and multifaceted problem-solving. Additionally, these experiences have sharpened my strategic thinking, enhanced my empathy, and improved communication, which are crucial for fostering trust and collaboration in complex projects.
How do you build and maintain effective tech teams across diverse cultures?
Managing IT teams across diverse cultural environments requires a thoughtful blend of cultural awareness, clear communication, and trust-building. I prioritise understanding the unique work ethics, communication styles, and practices of each team, allowing me to tailor my leadership approach and ensure everyone feels respected. Transparent, consistent communication, regular updates, and equal access to resources help foster collaboration and keep teams aligned. Emphasising shared goals and a common vision promotes unity and purpose. Trust is built by empowering team members with autonomy, supporting their efforts, and celebrating collective successes. Additionally, adapting to time zones and workflow preferences ensures inclusivity, allowing all members to contribute effectively. This strategy strengthens team cohesion and leverages diversity to drive innovation and success.
What’s your key strength as a tech leader and its impact on large projects?
As a tech leader, my greatest strength is my ability to listen and observe before taking action. This approach allows me to thoroughly understand the work culture, team dynamics, and project nuances. By assessing the environment and challenges comprehensively, I make informed decisions that align with both team capabilities and project goals. In large-scale IT projects, especially greenfield ones, this strength proves invaluable. It ensures that the project’s architecture is well-designed from the beginning, addressing potential issues early. This methodical approach helps mitigate risks and overcome challenges effectively, leading to successful project outcomes and fostering a collaborative, adaptive work environment.
What are your personal passions, and how do you balance them with your career?
Beyond technology, I am passionate about travel, which refreshes and inspires me. I also enjoy teaching through mentoring and workshops, sharing my knowledge and supporting others’ growth. Reading keeps me informed and inspired. Despite a busy schedule, I prioritise these activities, integrating them into my life to enrich both my leadership and personal well-being.
