Nurturing Well-Rounded Students Beyond Academics
Meghana Rao Jupally
Founder,
Meru International School
I n the words of the great philosopher Nelson Mandela, ‘Education is the most powerful weapon, which you can use to change the world.’ It’s a sentiment that perfectly encapsulates the remarkable journey of Meghana Rao Jupally, the visionary founder behind Meru International School. Her life story reads like an odyssey fuelled by an unyielding passion for education and an unshakable commitment to transforming lives.
Meghana’s path in education is nothing short of an adventure. With a strong educational background, she led the management team at Yashoda Nursing School and College, expanding course offerings to meet the evolving demands of the world. However, the story takes an intriguing turn with the arrival of her two children. Motherhood reignited her perspective, driving her to pay close attention to changes in education.
She noticed the fading of the values that had shaped her own upbringing. This pivotal moment inspired her to establish Meru International School—an institution focused on character-building alongside academics. Meghana’s motivation is clear: to provide children with an education that goes beyond textbooks. As a mother herself, she envisions every child under her care as a potential future leader.
Her belief is straightforward: exceptional leaders are nurtured through quality education, exposure to possibilities, and strong moral values. Meghana is an inspiration, demonstrating the impact one person’s unwavering commitment to education can have on society. Join us on a journey into the life and vision of the founder of Meru International School. Her dedication to education isn’t just a mission; it’s a force that empowers children to become the exemplary leaders our country needs.Â
What were the major challenges you faced when starting and operating a school, and how did you overcome them?
When I think about the school’s journey, the foremost consideration that comes to mind is the crucial role of exceptional educators. Assembling an exceptional team of educators was paramount. They needed outstanding qualifications and alignment with our vision. Finding such talent was challenging, but our competent team handled recruitment, ensuring educators of the highest calibre who shared our vision. The next hurdle was meticulous regulatory compliance. Establishing a school, especially for children, demanded rigorous documentation and adherence to standards like CBSE and Cambridge. Obtaining certifications and ensuring compliance was a complex task, but we navigated it diligently, prioritising safety and quality education. Meru’s reputation today wasn’t built overnight. Through our team’s dedication and stakeholder trust, we gradually established a name that parents recognise and trust for their children’s education and well-being.
How do you adapt the curriculum to meet changing student needs?
Meeting the evolving needs of our students is an ongoing and dynamic process. To begin, we must stay attuned to current market trends as students’ course preferences shift each year, aligning our offerings with their changing aspirations to remain relevant and responsive to their educational desires. Maintaining alignment with national and international educational standards forms a solid foundation for our curriculum. This ensures we meet essential benchmarks and consistently deliver quality education. Emphasising 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical abilities is a core aspect of our approach. We holistically nurture students through diverse teaching methods, fostering these vital skills. The integration of technology and innovative teaching methods into our curriculum is paramount to recognising the tech-driven future. This ensures our students receive a comprehensive education encompassing modern technological proficiency. Our team of experienced educators plays a pivotal role in this endeavour. Their dedication enables us to keep our curriculum and students attuned to current trends, ensuring they are well-prepared for the future.

Passion is the driving force when establishing an educational institution, but it’s essential to remember the challenges involved and navigate them by letting their passion fuel their determination. Women, who often balance professional and household responsibilities, must prioritise work-life balance for their well-being. Without it, they may find themselves overwhelmed with work, struggling to focus effectively both at home and in their professional roles.
