Nikhil Chandhok Indian-origin Google AR Product Director joins Facebook to head up the Camera team working on augmented reality. Chandhok previously worked as the Google’s Director of Product (AR), and now he is looking forward to heading augmented reality efforts with Facebook’s camera team.

Nikhil Chandhok in its exciting move has joined Facebook to build a platform that enables the creation and introduction of global AR experiences everywhere. On Tuesday’s Facebook post-Nikhil Chandhok said while looking back at his journey, “I am proud of my worked at Google’s ARCore Smartphone augmented reality and at DayDream VR platform. At Google and DayDream, we expanded the approach to augmented reality tools and develop ARCore. We laid the fundamental aspects of AR platforms and expanded its scope for future use.”

“Now moving ahead of the Camera/AR team at Facebook and I am looking forward to building a platform that allows the introduction of global AR experience and establishing momentum in cross-platform camera services. We try to bring more AR experiences to life as massive opportunities are ahead for AR.”

For the giant search engine, Nikhil Chandhok has contributed to ARCore for smartphones and exclusive VR console and environment, DayDream. He has co-founded Bento Labs, based on Artificial Intelligence startup which raised USD 2 million.  Previously he served a session at Google Ventures which was among You Tube’s top 50 employees. The creation of You Tube’s API program and VEVO were among his achievements.

Chandhok realizes that both Google and Facebook have not supported AR’s innovation as a major platform and is still a largely unutilized platform for the companies’ future growth. For Chandhok, AR is still a massive opportunity and an interesting challenge for which he has to explore it with the talented team at Facebook.

Chandhok’s journey has also marked the foundation of Google’s Blog Search Feature and Microsoft’s Enterprise Storage Business. At Facebook, Chandhok hopes to bring entrepreneurial spirit with the team members and the scope of AR in the real world.
