Apple to Debut New Voice-Activated Siri AirPods, American Tech giant Apple is preparing a couple of updating models of its wireless AirPod headphone that was first released in 2016, according to Bloomberg.
This year, Apple is planning to refresh the AirPods, whose highlight changes will be the addition of a new version of the “W” line of chips and to let people summon digital assistant Siri via voice commands without needing to physically tap the earphone with the hand. As per report beyond 2018, the company plans to release an additional model in a 2019 update which will be water-resistant AirPods that means it can survive being submerged in water for a long time or can withstand splashes of water and rain.
The 2018 hardware refresh device is known as “B288” and would include an improved version of “W” line of a chip (possibly the W2 or W3) that Apple created purposely to get most convenient, manageable and improved Bluetooth audio setups between gadgets.
As mention earlier, Apple added another interesting feature of voice-activating Siri that would let users trigger the virtual assistant simply by saying the wake word aloud – “Hey Siri.” In the world of the wireless earbuds, Apple is already dominating the market and according to report it is estimated that Apple’s completely-wireless AirPods accounted for 85 % of headphone sales in the US, when it was first released in 2016.
In the world of Apple, newer models releasing will likely have a quality of life improvements as fast and regular iteration leads to more expected cadence. So it’s not much of a surprise to see Apple’s rhythm to new model launches and planning to work on an augmented reality headset ahead.
Ming-Chi Kuo, the KGI Securities analyst has evaluated that despite tight supply Apple shipped approx. 13 to 14 million AirPods last year, and he expects AirPods to remain one of Apple’s top performing product in 2018 also.
