Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro Features and Price, Note 5 Receives an Anticipated Face Unlock Feature with MIUI 9.2.4 OTA Update, Keeping its promise made during its launch in India last week, Xiaomi has become the latest company to receive the anticipated Face Unlock feature for its Redmi Note 5 Pro via an OTA (over-the-air) software update. With an over-the-air (OTA) update of MIUI 9.2.4, the feature allows users to unlock the phone by just looking at the screen.
At its launch on 14 February, Xiaomi has made a promise that it will roll out the Face Unlock feature on the Redmi Note 5 Pro by the end of this winter season.
Redmi Note 5 Pro, a far more intriguing smartphone has become the Xiaomi’s first smartphone in the country to get the popular face recognition technology which is a part of Xiaomi’s latest system update – MIUI v22.214.171.124.
The smartphone is targeted at the budget category under Rs. 18,000, packs the Snapdragon 636 processor with RAM variants up to 6GB, and- now- face recognition. With the MIUI 9, Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro features an 18:9 display, usually referred as full-screen phones with other features like Split screen, Mi Drop for file sharing, animated app icons, camera improvement and additional system stability optimizations.
Xiaomi’s Face Unlock feature is touted to be faster than the fingerprint scanner but not as secure as the fingerprint scanner. “Our face recognition technology scans facial features in roughly 500 milliseconds faster than the fingerprint scanner using a high accuracy matching mechanism,” said Jai Mani, Xiaomi India’s Lead Product Manager.
Sporting a 5.99-inch Full-HD+ display, the smartphone has mildly curved corners that don’t dig deep into your palm with a massive 4,000mAh battery and 64GB internal storage and 4GB/6GB RAM options. Being light enough to carry around, Redmi Note 5 Pro has a front camera of a 20-MP camera with LED flash and on the rear side; it has a combination of 12-MP and 5-MP camera sensors that allow the camera to capture more light than typical smartphone cameras.
