A Fight for Our Youth

We do many things to try to hold on to our physical youth as we age. We may buy creams that promise to hide our wrinkles, we may color our hair, or even turn to surgery when we feel like we have no other option. The truth is that it is much better to work on staying healthy — and start from the inside out. What we put inside our bodies has a huge effect on how we look and feel on the outside. Since that is the case, we do well to find supplements that can help us to feel better from the inside out.

The Study of Aging

Dr. Leonard Guarente is the co-founder and chief scientist of Elysium Health. This consumer science company is focused on translating advances in science and technology into clinically-validated health products that work. Dr. Guarente dedicated most of his career to studying the genetic and molecular causes of aging at MIT, where he serves as the director of the Glenn Center for the Biology of Aging Research.

To help bring advances in science and technology to market, Elysium Health also collaborates with scientists and clinicians from prominent academic institutions like Cambridge, Harvard, and Oxford.

How Basis Works: Increasing NAD+ Levels

Elysium Health’s first supplement is Basis. It is based on over two decades of prior research. This supplement works to increase levels of NAD+ in our cells. This essential coenzyme is part of many of our cellular functions like maintaining DNA health, circadian rhythms, and energy creation. NAD+ declines in levels as we age and those functions break down. Basis restores and sustains those levels, supporting cellular functions and our cellular health.

In 2016, Elysium put Basis through a clinical trial to ensure its effectiveness. The results of the trial showed that taking the recommended daily dose of Basis increased levels of NAD+ by an average of 40 percent over the course of several weeks. The results of the trial were published in November 2017 in the peer-reviewed journal Nature Partner Journals: Aging and Mechanisms of Disease.

Time for Basis

To include Basis in your daily routine, purchase it on Elysium Health’s website. Each jar of Basis contains about a month’s worth of supplement. This means that the company sells Basis as monthly subscriptions. A regular month-to-month subscription costs $50 each month. The most popular plan is the six-month subscription to Basis for $270, which breaks down to $45 per month. Individual jars cost $60 each.

Elysium Health has also partnered with the tech retailer b8ta to sell Basis in stores. Discover other unique products while shopping for an extra jar of Basis at one of nine b8ta stores.

Elysium Health is in the process of developing new products that focus on cognitive health, skin health, muscle function, and circadian rhythms. These products are currently in various stages of pre-clinical and clinical trials.
