“We must understand the commitment of the new era as we move towards the changing aspects of a new lifestyle with artificial intelligence and the convergence of new technologies”.

Ms Stefania Giannini, UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Education

Artificial intelligence (AI) and its popular tools, such as ChatGPT, Google Bard, and Canvas, have reshaped the way we understand, apply knowledge, and ensure student engagement in academia. A recent technological innovation in education is a reality that has been used for everything from teaching the humanities to acquiring sociological skills. Actually, the technological revolution and changing academic challenges have given a new face to the academic scenario and the teaching and learning process. Academia is not like before; now we all use technological tools in academics and feel connected to each other, irrespective of the classroom learning process. Unquestionably, modern media has provided a new approach to learning pedagogy.

Many research scholars have defined artificial intelligence (AI) as the future of the education system as the way things are transforming, and we have all converged with the new learning parameters of academia. AI-based knowledge has actually opened up a new possibility of adapting creatively to academic progress. To explore the possible applications and effectiveness of AI in the education system, it’s very crucial to understand the importance, concepts, applications, effectiveness, and challenges of AI in the education system. Like all technologies, artificial intelligence has its advantages and disadvantages in its applications. AI in education is a biggest success in respect to the effective engagements of students in the present era of media revolution. In the conventional education system, it was very critical and challenging as the conventional teaching was teacher’s centric but modern education is students centric, for instance, the AI has given a more interactive students centric learning approach. AI has changed the educational attitude from the way teachers deliver to the way students are constructing their concepts. Surely, AI has transformed simple learning into active learning by adding more interactional, case-based, and impact-based professional development.  AI has intense potential to revolutionise the academy by providing active and innovative learning experiences. Active learning through AI can transmute classroom learning, especially by identifying gaps in students’ understanding and providing immediate feedback, enabling teachers to focus more on student interactions.  The use of AI is indeed a boon for students, as it allows them to explore more and learn in association with real life. AI can be used constructively and professionally, and it certainly has the potential to motivate students for greater participation and deeper understanding of ideas and conceptual frameworks. In this respect, the biggest challenge is with the teachers too, as if we want to handle the AI tools efficiently for students, the teachers also must be well trained and aware of the social as well as technological aspects of AI and its effectiveness.

Concluding, I must add here that we are in the 21st century, and the most significant thing is that the present society is very much oriented towards knowledge and technology-based information, and it has also been proven that digital communication tools like AI are productively going to change the face of social and market. Therefore, we must associate our academia and education with the diverse tools of AI for perfection in the professional implementation of ideas and skills for the best output.
