Google Laysoff 200 Employees, Prepares Job Shifts

Just after the earnings report for the first quarter, on 25th April, Google made a strategic move. They laid off at least 200 employees from the core team in the USA and are planning to shift a few of these job roles to India and Mexico. This decision is part of their ongoing efforts to optimise their operations and reduce operating costs. As per the latest reports, Google has cut 50 employees from the engineering team based in California headquarters.  

What Do The Core Team Of Google Responsible For?

Google’s core team oversees critical aspects of the company’s operations, including developing technical infrastructure for flagship products, ensuring online user safety, and managing the global information technology framework. This encompasses vital areas such as information technology, Python development, technical infrastructure, security protocols, application platforms, core development, and various engineering functions.

Who Announced The Layoffs?

Azim Hussain, the vice president of the Google Developer Ecosystem, announced the layoffs via email. He told CNBC, “We intend to maintain our current global footprint while also expanding in high-growth global workforce locations so that we can operate closer to our partners and developer communities.

Also, Alphabet, Google’s parent company, announced they will be laying off approximately 12,000 employees, which is equal to six percent of its total employees, following a downturn in the online advertising market.

What Is Google Planning Now?

The Google representative stated in the New York Post that impacted employees will be able to seek other job openings within the company. They further mentioned that they are looking to streamline structures to provide employees with more opportunities to work on innovative projects and core priorities.  

What Lies Ahead?

Google’s Layoff is just the beginning of the larger trend of significant job cuts that will affect some of the largest companies in the world. As per Business standard, approximately 75 ooo people lost their jobs in the technology sector this year. In the last month, Apple laid off 600 employees working on its car project. Tesla also sliced off 14,ooo jobs because of declining sales.
