In November, Prosecutor in Brooklyn, New York said that a Lithuanian man and an unknown co-conspirator emptied the brokerage accounts of helpless victims and stole thousands of dollars. The losses would have been worse, but for the several investors who made some seemingly simple but savvy moves to stop the fraud from happening. According to the complaint from the office of Richard Donoghue, U.S attorney for the Eastern District of New York, initially in 2011- the crime spanned eight years. The complaint against Parfionovas, who was extradited to the U.S. from Ukraine on November 21, reads a list of Do’s and Don’ts for protecting your account from one of the usual and expensive types of wire fraud.
