Ola Electronics Receives Regulatory Notice

The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) issued a notice to Bangalore-based electronic manufacturer Ola on October 3, considering a bundle of consumer complaints regarding service issues. The notice suggested that the electronic scooter company had breached multiple Consumer Protection Act 2019 provisions, including deficiencies, misleading advertisements, unfair trade practices, and consumer rights violations. 

The National Consumer Helpline, managed by the Department of Consumer Affairs, recorded 10,644 complaints between September 1, 2023, and August 30, 2024. Among these, 3,389 were related to service delays, 1,899 mentioned late delivery, and 1,459 highlighted unmet service promises. 

The notice also highlights other consumer complaints, such as manufacturing defects, the sale of second-hand scooters in the name of new ones, lack of refunds for cancelled bookings, recurring issues after services, overcharging, billing discrepancies, and battery issues. 

The Secretary of the Consumer Affairs Department confirmed that CCPA is investigating numerous complaints against the company, primarily related to poor services. “We hope Ola Electronics promptly addresses these concerns and resolves consumer issues,” she said”

Ola Electronics is one of the largest electric vehicle companies today in India. It has seen tremendous growth in the electric scooter market for launching affordable and designer scooters. However, Ola Electronic has not yet commented on the matter.
