Queen Elizabeth II, whose reign saw Britain transition from the age of steam to the age of smartphones and who oversaw the fairly peaceful disintegration of a once-global empire, has died. She was 96 years old.
As per a statement released from Buckingham Palace, she took her last breath at her Balmoral, Scotland-based mansion on September 8.
Crowned in 1952, Elizabeth led the United Kingdom through a time of political roller coaster. She started her monarchy as the head of the British Empire when its global influence was declining. Elizabeth became the longest-serving majesty of the United Kingdom in 2015. She exceeded Queen Victoria’s record, who ruled over the UK from 1837 to 1901.
Elizabeth was married to Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, who died in April 2021 at the age of 99. She described him as her “Strength and Stay”. The eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles, will take her place on the throne.
“We mourn the passing of a cherished sovereign and a much-loved mother profoundly,” King Charles III said in a statement. “I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country.”
As per reports, sporting events scheduled on September 8, including Friday’s play of the Test Match between England and South Africa, along with a European PGA Championship of Golf, have been withdrawn as a gesture of respect.

What Will Change In the United Kingdom After The Death Of Queen Elizabeth II?
As King Charles III succeeded the late Elizabeth, the national anthem will be amended from “God Save Queen” to “God Save King”. The image of the queen will be replaced with a new King’s image. Banks and post officers will collect the existing currency and replace it with the new one. However, it might probably take many years to replace the whole currency from the market. The same will happen to passports and stamps, along with military and police uniforms.
Queen Elizabeth II was one of the most recognisable personalities on the planet, seen frequently but heard rarely. Political leaders, statesmen, and celebrities from all across the world forwarded their condolence towards the queen’s dismissal.
