Born in Mumbai, India, Shailesh’s academic journey began with a bachelor’s degree in economics from Mumbai University in 1987. He further sharpened his business acumen by earning an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow, in 1989. This strong educational foundation set the stage for his entry into the corporate world. He joined P&G in July 1989 as an assistant brand manager in personal health care, India. His early years at P&G were characterised by rapid learning and adaptation as he navigated various roles and responsibilities across different business units and geographics. 

The Takeoff 

Over his 32-year tenure at P&G, Shailesh has donned multiple hats, each contributing to his comprehensive understanding of the business. His roles have spanned health & beauty care, home care, and fabric care in developed and developing regions, including North America, Europe, Asia, and Africa. One of his notable early roles was as marketing director for fabric and home care in the ASEAN, Australia, India, and Korea-Singapore regions in 2000. This position allowed him to develop a deep understanding of diverse markets and consumer behaviours, which would later prove invaluable in his global leadership roles.

The Leadership 

A strong focus on sustainability highlights Shailesh’s tenure as CEO of fabric & home care. From 2016 to 2021, he served as the executive sponsor for global sustainability, ensuring that He integrated P&G’s sustainability goals into daily business operations. This commitment to sustainability enhanced the company’s environmental impact and created value for consumers and shareholders.
