Jack Dorsey, the CEO of Twitter, announced on Wednesday, in a tweet that Twitter will not accept any political ads anymore. Dorsey tweeted, “We’ve made the decision to stop all political advertising on Twitter globally. We believe political message reach should be earned, not bought”. He added that a political message is earned when people decide to follow an account or retweet. He defended his point of view by asserting that paying for reach and pressurizing for highly optimized and targeted people diminishes the value of political messages. He also claimed that imparting a political message should not be compromised by money. The chief financial officer of Twitter, Ned Segal reported in a tweet about the revenue it earned from political ads and it summed up to $3 million during 2018.
