It was getting expensive to fuel Starlink in Ukraine, an endeavour that was burning more than 20 million dollars per month on average. The CEO, Elon Musk, had clearly stated that he couldn’t continue to fund Starlink if things followed a similar trend. However, Starlink’s operation in Ukraine will not come to a halt because the good news is that Starlink has won the Pentagon contract for Satellite Services to Ukraine.
“We continue to work with a range of global partners to ensure Ukraine has the resilient satellite and communication capabilities they need. Satellite communications constitute a vital layer in Ukraine’s overall communications network and the department contracts with Starlink for services of this type.”, Pentagon elaborated in a statement.
When Russia has constantly been trying to shut down internet connection in Ukraine and make military and international communication impossible, Starlink has become a lifesaver for Ukraine. The Ukrainian soldiers use Starlink for communication in battlegrounds and more.
Elon Musk-owned SpaceX, the parent company of Starlink, has been providing Ukraine with much-needed internet support through its satellite network. Space X is one of the most valued startups, with a staggering figure of $137 billion. Starlink has 4000+ plus low-orbit satellites that ensure a high-speed global internet connection. After winning Pentagon Contract, Starlink has the support to invest in satellites for Ukraine.
However, the terms and conditions of the contract are confidential. Pentagon has kept from disclosing any details on the contract, owing to security reasons. “for operational security reasons and due to the critical nature of these systems”, Pentagon quoted. One thing is clear Starlink will continue to provide high-speed satellite communication to the war-ridden areas of Ukraine.
