A Visionary Who Turned Quiet Science into Huge Hope

DR. MOHAN RAUT

Partner,

Dr. Raut's Centre for Reproductive Immunology

Every year, over 27 million couples in India face the heartbreak of infertility—often silently, amid stigma and emotional struggle. Amid this, Dr. Mohan Raut, one of India’s leading reproductive immunologists, has become a symbol of both scientific innovation and compassionate care. As Co-Founder of Dr. Raut’s Centre for Reproductive Immunology, he has pioneered the once-overlooked field of Clinical Reproductive Immunology. Over two decades, he’s delivered hope to countless couples through groundbreaking treatments like ImmuLIT™ Therapy. Dr. Raut blends scientific rigor with a human touch, collaborating with gynecologists, IVF specialists, and clinics across India. His focus on immune-related infertility has closed critical gaps in diagnosis and treatment, especially for those who’ve exhausted conventional options. TradeFlock interviews Dr. Raut to explore how he’s not only transforming lives but also challenging the notion that doctors lack business acumen, leading with strategy, purpose, and impact in a niche field that’s now a global movement.

Can you briefly share your background and how your hospital and reproductive immunology journey began?

My journey began with a deep curiosity for life and science—medicine felt like a calling. I studied at Seth GS Medical College and KEM Hospital, where I met Dr. Mugdha, my life partner. After completing our MDs, we opened Dr. Raut’s Women’s Hospital in 1997, taking a leap of faith. Over time, my interest in reproductive immunology—a lesser-known field—led to the founding of India’s first Centre for Reproductive Immunology. What began modestly has now expanded to several cities across India. We’re rooted in purpose, and that has helped us grow with impact and meaning.

How do you build and maintain patient trust in such a personal field?

Trust begins with consistency. From day one, my wife, Dr. Mugdha, helped shape a patientfirst model that blended care with structure. Whether in Delhi, Mumbai, or Hyderabad, every LIT procedure is done only by us —never delegated. We ensure every detail—from machines to syringes—comes from our central Mumbai lab to maintain precision. We constantly learn, attending global seminars and publishing with Springer Nature, which boosted our credibility in both patient and medical communities. Trust, to me, is built by showing up, staying exact, and doing what you promise —every single time.

How do you deal with burnout in such an emotionally demanding field?

This field is emotionally intense—witnessing couples struggle with infertility is heartbreaking. But the joy of seeing them succeed with ImmuLIT™ outweighs the emotional toll. What truly grounds us is our involvement with a residential school for hearing-impaired children in Dapoli, Maharashtra, established in memory of my grandmother-in-law. Through our CSR efforts, we remain closely connected to the school’s growth. Recently, we helped set up a small Robotics Lab to inspire new skills among the children. Supporting their learning brings immense purpose and reminds us why we do what we do.

What’s been the hardest yet most fulfilling part of introducing LIT in India?

The toughest part was creating awareness—most people, even fertility experts, didn’t know LIT existed. Yet, the need was immense, especially for couples facing repeated miscarriages or IVF failures without clear reasons. We trained abroad, studied with global experts, and invited Dr. Christiansen from Denmark to launch our center, which gave us strong credibility. With continuous research and dedication, we introduced ImmuLIT™, our patented version of LIT. The results were life-changing—some couples overcame over 10 IVF failures and 15 miscarriages. Seeing them finally become parents is the most fulfilling part of our journey.

What are your plans for the next five years?

While my focus has always been clinical, expansion now feels like a natural progression. We’ve grown steadily and debt-free—our existing centers fund the new ones. Chandigarh is next, with more locations in the pipeline. Since we can’t be everywhere, we’re building a capable team to lead the expansion. We’re also receiving interest in business collaborations, which we’ll explore once we consolidate further. On a personal note, my goal is simple—stay healthy and energised, so I can continue this work with the same passion, even a decade from now.
