Leading Beyond the Playbook to Redefine Packaging

Priyesh Dalmia

Co-Founder

Spectalpack

Leadership truly begins when the playbook runs out, believes Priyesh Dalmia. When he co-founded Spectalpack, there were no predefined systems to optimise, no inherited structures to lean on, only decisions waiting to be made and consequences waiting to compound. That transition marked a decisive shift in how he viewed leadership: from executing within boundaries to owning outcomes without a safety net.

With over 13 years of experience in manufacturing and packaging, Priyesh had already mastered operational efficiency, resource optimisation, and sales growth. But entrepreneurship demanded something deeper. The challenge was no longer solving problems inside systems; it was building the systems themselves. Technology choices, people decisions, capital allocation, and culture became interconnected levers shaping the company’s future.

At Spectalpack, Priyesh has focused on creating clarity over control—clarity of vision, priorities, and expectations. His leadership philosophy has evolved from being hands-on everywhere to being intentional where his involvement creates the highest leverage. Under his guidance, Spectalpack has fostered a culture of innovation, operational excellence, and sustainable business practices. The mission is clear: to reimagine packaging solutions while creating long-term value for customers, stakeholders, and the industry at large.

Speaking to TradeFlock, Priyesh offers a candid perspective on his journey as a founder and the strategic mindset guiding Spectalpack’s growth.

What was a defining decision at Spectalpack, and how did it impact you personally?

Committing early to digital printing as a scalable manufacturing model, rather than treating it as a niche or prototyping solution, was a defining decision at Spectalpack. At the time, it required investing ahead of demand, not just in advanced technology, but also in educating the market about its potential.

This decision fundamentally reshaped our growth trajectory, enabling us to serve brands that demanded speed, flexibility, and frequent launches, while positioning Spectalpack as a long-term strategic partner rather than a transactional vendor. It also created a clear roadmap for scalable expansion through multiple installations. Personally, it reinforced my belief in conviction-led leadership, showing that meaningful growth comes from informed courage and the patience to stay the course, even before external validation arrives.

Where is Spectalpack headed in five years, and what growth or funding goals are you aiming for?

Over the next five years, I see Spectalpack becoming a category-defining, digital-first flexible packaging platform with a strong presence across India and selective international markets. Our ambition is to make digital printing a core component of mainstream packaging supply chains, not an exception.

From a growth perspective, we are focused on sustained capacity expansion through multiple digital installations, deeper penetration across FMCG, food, nutrition, and D2C brands, and strengthening unit economics through scale and operational discipline. The next phase of financing will prioritise institutionalising systems, expanding capacity, and reinforcing technology-led differentiation over growth for growth’s sake.

What leadership approaches unlock high team performance, and how do you balance them in hybrid work?

Three leadership practices have consistently unlocked strong performance: context, accountability, and trust. I ensure teams understand the why behind decisions, not just the what, so they can act independently and make better choices.

Accountability is non-negotiable, but it comes with autonomy—teams own outcomes, not just tasks. Trust is built through transparency, clear communication, and consistent expectations. In a hybrid work culture, the focus shifts from monitoring presence to evaluating measurable outcomes.

Manufacturing requires physical presence, while strategy, planning, and customer engagement can be hybrid. Success comes from clearly defining what requires presence and what requires performance and respecting both equally.

Which leadership value is absolutely non-negotiable for you?

Integrity is my leadership non-negotiable. I prioritise doing what is right for the business and the people, even when inconvenient. Compromising values for quick gains always carries hidden costs. Across teams, customers, and financial decisions, consistent, principled action builds credibility. Trust cannot be rushed or scaled, making it the most valuable asset any leader can earn and preserve.
