Engaged Potential

The biggest limitation in organisations today is not capability but the underutilisation of human potential. Despite access to talent, tools, and strategy, many organisations struggle to create environments where people feel truly empowered to contribute at their highest level. The gap lies not in what organisations have, but in how effectively they unlock the capabilities of their people.

Sharon Dhaliwal has built her work around addressing this very challenge. Having been awarded the Top 25 Most Talented Global Training & Development Leaders by the World HRD Congress, she is known for delivering high-impact, results-driven programmes that elevate leadership capability, reshape culture, and enhance customer experience. As the founder, corporate trainer, and strategic advisor at Engaged Potential, she brings over two decades of experience across hospitality and corporate leadership into a space where impact is defined by how organisations enable their people to perform, grow, and lead. Her transition into the training and human resources consultancy space reflects a conscious shift from driving results within organisations to reshaping how organisations think about leadership, culture, and human potential at scale.

Working closely with CEOs and leadership teams across industries and geographies, Sharon champions a powerful belief: when people are trusted and empowered, they rise, often beyond what even they thought possible. Her journey has reinforced two defining lessons: that transformation is not built on frameworks alone but on trust and ownership, and that leadership, at its core, is deeply human and contextual. Having trained across 35+ cities worldwide spanning Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and North America, Sharon brings deep cross-cultural expertise and a proven ability to drive measurable business outcomes.

When speaking with TradeFlock, Sharon shares insights into her journey and success mantra that drives her even today.

What unseen sacrifices has this purpose-driven journey demanded from you?

Building something with purpose is often celebrated for its outcomes, but the quieter sacrifices behind it are rarely seen. For me, this journey has meant choosing impact over predictability, stepping away from structured roles into a space where credibility, resilience, and consistent delivery define success.

What many may not realise is how deeply personal this work is. I don’t just work with organisations; I connect with individuals, understanding their ambitions and untapped potential. The most rewarding part has been seeing them grow into leadership roles and remain connected over time, which is proof that the impact extends far beyond the immediate engagement.

When you step back from work, what aspects of your identity feel most rewarding and most challenging?

When I step back from titles and achievements, what I’m most proud of is the lasting impact I’ve had on people. Throughout my journey, my focus has remained consistent on empowering individuals to realise their potential by building not just capability, but confidence and belief. Seeing people I’ve worked with grow into senior leadership roles and stay connected is deeply fulfilling, as it reflects relationships, not just results.

At the same time, one of the more challenging aspects has been learning to define myself beyond achievement. In high-performance environments, it’s easy to measure success through outcomes. Over time, I’ve realised that true fulfilment lies in the depth of impact, knowing you’ve genuinely contributed to someone’s growth and journey.

How do leaders behave in challenging times, and what is your mantra during such moments?

In times of uncertainty, many organisations instinctively tighten control, adding more structure, oversight, and caution. However, the most effective leaders do the opposite. They lean into trust, empathy, and empowerment. My mantra during such moments is simple: lead with clarity but connect with humanity. While clarity provides direction, it is trust and empathy that build commitment.

In challenging environments, people don’t need more control; they need leaders who believe in them. When leaders empower their teams and involve them meaningfully, it fosters resilience, ownership, and innovation. Organisations that choose trust over control not only navigate challenges better but also emerge stronger and more aligned.

What advice would you give to someone starting a company like yours today?

If someone were to start a company in this space today, my advice would be simple: be clear on your purpose but build your credibility through consistent impact. In consultancy, trust is your true currency; it isn’t earned overnight but through delivering meaningful, repeatable outcomes over time.

One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned is that people remember how you made them feel and how you helped them grow. That’s what drives lasting relationships and continued partnerships, far beyond a single engagement. It’s a reflection of sustained value and trust.

I would also urge future founders to never lose sight of the human element. Frameworks and solutions have their place, but real transformation happens when you connect with people, understand their aspirations and empower them to succeed.

Above all, trust your people and invest in them. Because in the end, organisations don’t transform, people do, and that’s where true impact lies.
