If there’s one moment Miguel Palencia returns to for motivation, it’s the instant he realised the world was on the brink of an intelligence revolution. Thirteen years ago, while building early blockchain systems, decentralised ledgers, and smart contracts, he sensed that the real disruption was only just beginning. That realisation that AI would redefine not just technology, but the trajectory of human capability reshaped his purpose. For Miguel, what was once science fiction quickly became a tangible reality: autonomous agents making complex decisions, adaptive systems learning in real time, and intelligence amplifying human potential exponentially. Experiencing this evolution firsthand fuelled his vision to create technologies that don’t just follow the next wave of innovation but actively shape it. Today, as co-founder and CEO of NovaXAI. ai and a key leader at the Qtum Foundation, Miguel Palencia stands at the epicentre of this transformation. He is building solutions that bridge the gap between human ingenuity and machine intelligence, designing systems capable of learning, adapting, and making decisions with a speed and scale previously unimaginable. Miguel’s journey reflects a rare combination of foresight and execution: spotting pivotal technological shifts early, understanding their societal impact, and committing to building at the forefront. His work is about redefining what is possible for humanity, helping industries, organisations, and people navigate and thrive in a world increasingly shaped by intelligent machines. In this exclusive interview with TradeFlock, Miguel reflects on his journey and work.
What achievements are you proudest of, and what’s next on the horizon?
Leading technical strategy at VeChain and scaling Qtum globally are milestones I value, but they feel less like victories and more like confirmations—I can bring ambitious visions to life. What keeps me moving is curiosity and the desire to explore uncharted territory. NovaXAI exists because I saw AI tools operating in silos when we need integrated intelligence and assistants when we need autonomous agents. Each success reveals an even larger horizon. The merging of AI and decentralised infrastructure isn’t just a milestone; it’s the start of an entirely new era. And honestly, chasing that horizon—that next frontier—is the only game worth playing.
As COO, what initiative excites you most about the company’s future?
As COO, what excites me most is that we’re shaping the future rather than following it. At NovaXAI, our AI agents anticipate, decide, and execute autonomously—handling workflows, generating content, executing strategies, and interacting with blockchain in real time. Five years ago, this would have been pure theory; today, it’s live. The fusion of AI, decentralised systems, and highperformance computing is redefining what’s possible. My 13-year journey in blockchain infrastructure has been perfect preparation for this moment. Each milestone we achieve isn’t just a product launch—it’s proof that disciplined operations can turn bold visions into reality. Being the operational glue ensures teams can execute, innovate, and scale simultaneously, making this era of autonomous intelligence not just a vision, but a tangible, worldchanging reality.
What’s the toughest entrepreneurial challenge you’ve faced, and what mindset got you through it?
Navigating the 2018-2019 crypto winter while keeping team morale and development momentum alive was one of the toughest challenges of my career. Projects were collapsing, talent was leaving the industry, and the narrative around crypto had completely fallen apart. The mindset shift that got us through was moving from “survive until the market recovers” to “build what matters, regardless of market conditions.” Equally critical was treating failures as data, not defeats. Every technical setback, strategy that didn’t work, and assumption that proved wrong became fuel for improvement. Over 13 years, I’ve made countless errors, and each has taught lessons no success ever could. By embracing failure as insight rather than fear, you become antifragile. That discipline—building through adversity, learning relentlessly— remains central to how I approach every venture today.
A lesson outside work that transformed your leadership?
The most transformative lesson came from an unexpected place: debugging hardware at 3 AM when nothing makes sense and every assumption fails. Troubleshooting servers, configuring systems, or figuring out why something that should work doesn’t teaches humility in a way no business book ever could. Complexity humbles everyone eventually. Patience becomes not just a virtue but a survival mechanism. Most importantly, you learn that the best solutions emerge when you stop pretending to have all the answers and start asking better questions. That mindset—humility, curiosity, and resilience—quietly shapes how I lead teams and approach challenges every day.
