Google Maps Introduces 6 New Features For India Users

Google recently announced major updates to its navigation software, Google Maps, for Indian users. According to Google, this new update will include six new features that will use artificial intelligence and local partnerships to improve navigation capabilities and user experience. This update will be rolled out for the users this week.

Major Updates Released By Google Maps

Google has released these updates to address growing concerns among commuters regarding navigation. According to Miriam Daniel, the VP and GM of Google Maps, “Our quest to build a better Maps experience is never-ending, and India presents many amazing opportunities to bring the best of our AI and geospatial technologies to address complex real-world challenges.”

Avoid Narrow Roads With Ai

One of the biggest problems of using Google Maps was that it used to route through narrow roads, even if you have a four-wheeler. To remedy this, Google has now integrated AI that will analyse satellite images, street views, and other data to suggest the best route to avoid narrow roads, especially for four-wheelers.

Flyover or Not?

After the latest update, Google Maps will now display flyovers along with suggested routes in 40 Indian cities.  As per the company, this is done to prepare the driver mentally for approaching elevated routes while traveling.

Locate EV Charging Stations

Thanks to partnerships with top EV charging suppliers, Google now has data on over 8,000 EV charging stations. Because of this, Google Maps will now display charging stations that can be filtered by charger type and view real-time availability, making India the first nation to display EV charging stations.

Local Recommendations

With this feature, Google is all set to improve the travel experience for tourists. According to the company, they are contacting the locals to compile lists of the top 10 popular cities and tourist destinations.

Report Incidents

This feature is more like a collective feedback mechanism in which users can report traffic issues and exchange information. All the major devices in use, such as Android, iOS, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, will support this functionality.

Book Tickets

Google Maps will allow you to easily book metro tickets for your commute. However, this feature is powered by ONDC and will only be launched in two Cities in India: Kochi and Chennai.
