The New Faces Steering Nasscom and Cognizant – Unveiled!

Nasscom, India’s apex technology association, has appointed Rajesh Nambiar as its new president. Nambiar will succeed Debjani Ghosh, who will retire in November this year. He was elected Chairman of Nasscom in 2023 and was also part of the search committee responsible for hiring a new designated president.

However, the committee, which included WNS CEO Keshav Murugesh, Sindhu Gangadharan, former Nasscom president Som Mittal, and others, asked Rajesh Nambiar to submit his name for the nomination. Rajesh was later elected as Nasscom’s designated president. Rajesh has extensive experience in the IT sector and has served in various IT giants, such as TCS, Cognizant, IBM, and Ciena.

Rajesh Nambiar mentioned, “This is truly an exciting time for the industry, as we focus on the accelerated transition to AI-first companies, making talent our greatest competitive advantage, driving growth, and increasing investments in IP creation and R&D. I am both privileged and honoured to take on this opportunity to collaborate with all stakeholders to enhance the Indian tech sector’s capabilities.

Nambiar is currently the CMD of the major IT giant Cognizant, which he will leave by the end of September before taking his position at Nasscom. He will be replaced by Rajesh Varrier, who will be appointed as the Global Operations Head, Chairman, and Managing Director of India. As part of his role as Global Operations Head and Chairman, Managing Director of India, his responsibilities will include operations, workforce planning, delivery excellence, leadership council, and other key responsibilities.

Before being appointed to Cognizant, Rajesh Varrier was the Global Head of Infosys’ Digital and Microsoft businesses, EVP, Head of Global Services, and Head of Infosys Americas. Varrier also served as SVP of Digital Experience for the Microsoft business at Infosys.
