After placing an order for the largest-ever aircraft, Air India plans to hire new staff to expand its national and international operations. On Thursday, a report conveys that Air India is hiring more than 1000 pilots, including captains and trainers and 4,200 cabin crew trainees this year.
Currently, Tata-owned Air India has more than 1,800 pilots, and by hiring new staff, the airline wants to expand its network plan. Recently, Air India ordered 470 aircraft with Airbus and Boeing, including wide-body planes.
“We are offering multiple opportunities and accelerated growth across our A320, B777, B787 and B737 fleet for captains and first officers, as well as trainers,” the airline said, adding that more than 500 aircraft are joining its fleet.
On the other hand, the current pilots of Air India have also raised concerns about the latest decision of revised salary structure and service conditions. On 17 April, Air India revamped the compensation structure for its pilots and cabin crew, which had been rejected by two pilot unions – India Commercial Pilots Association (ICPA) and Indian Pilots Guild (IPG). They said that the airline did not consult them before finalising the new contracts.

Since January, after Tata Group took over Air India, the airline has been focusing on sprucing up its product and services.
Air India also plans to hire cabin crew from all over the country, and the trainees will undergo a fifteen-week programme that will include extensive classroom and in-flight training.
