Patients may never know her name, but they experience the impact of her decisions every day. In healthcare, the systems that shape patient care are built long before a doctor walks into a consultation room, and Chetna Sharan has dedicated her career to strengthening those foundations. As MD–Strategy & Operations at Recoup Health, she has transformed strategic vision into scalable processes that place patients at the heart of every decision.
Working alongside her husband and founder of the hospital, Dr Deepak Sharan, she has helped build an organisation where operational excellence and empathy go hand in hand. Her leadership has been shaped by growth, change, and continuous reinvention, reinforcing her belief that success is measured not by expansion alone but by the trust an institution earns. In this exclusive interview with TradeFlock, Chetna discusses purpose-led leadership, patient-centric healthcare, and building institutions that stand the test of time.
What inspired your journey into strategy & operations?
I have always been driven by the challenge of turning ideas into meaningful outcomes. Early on, my ability to solve problems, unite teams, and execute visions naturally led me to Strategy & Operations.
When Dr Deepak founded Recoup Healthwith a clear vision, I took on the responsibility of creating the operational framework and created a scalable model that would support his vision.
The experience reinforced a simple truth: even the best strategy delivers value only when supported by disciplined execution, empowered teams, and a shared purpose. In healthcare, this responsibility is even greater because every operational decision ultimately impacts patient care. I firmly believe strategy provides direction and operations create momentum, but purpose gives meaning to both.
What challenge shaped your leadership the most?
Leading through periods of growth, change, successes, and setbacks has shaped my leadership more than any single milestone. Working with both aligned and diverse teams taught me that leadership is not about having all the answers but about listening, learning, and enabling others to succeed.
One of my biggest realisations has been that every ending marks the beginning of a new chapter. Sustainable success comes from creating a culture where people feel trusted, empowered, and accountable. Challenges also teach humility, resilience, and the importance of staying anchored to a larger purpose.
I often compare leadership to climbing a second mountain; you must first descend from the first, reflect on your strengths and weaknesses, and then begin the next ascent with greater clarity. Today, my focus is on building empowered teams and systems where every individual understands the larger purpose behind their contribution.
How do you identify and nurture future leaders?
I believe future leaders are defined as much by their mindset as their performance. Leaders who think beyond their individual roles and take responsibility for the organisation’s larger purpose create the greatest impact.
My role is to build an environment where people are trusted, challenged, and encouraged to grow. When individuals embrace ownership, they deliver results and simultaneously strengthen teams, solve meaningful problems, and inspire others to lead with purpose.
What leadership value has guided you throughout your career?
Integrity with empathy has been the foundation of my leadership journey. I believe leadership is about making decisions with the right intent and creating a meaningful impact. It also means simplifying complexity so teams can execute with clarity and confidence.
My spiritual outlook has taught me humility, self-awareness, and a deep sense of responsibility towards others. In healthcare, where every decision directly affects lives, these values become even more significant. I encourage my team to remain mindful of their thoughts and energy because compassionate care begins with people who feel balanced and empowered themselves.
A leader must constantly balance compassion with accountability, innovation with responsibility, and growth with purpose. Trust, earned through consistent actions, is what ultimately builds organisations that truly serve people.
Who has been your biggest inspiration, and why?
J.R.D. Tata and Ratan Tata have always inspired me for leading with integrity, humility, and a commitment to creating value for society. My greatest influence, however, has been my father B.K. Sinha, whose fearless decision-making, strategic thinking, and grounded approach shaped my perspective on leadership.
He taught me that courage, preparation, and self-belief are essential to navigating challenges. The advice that continues to guide me is simple yet profound: always do the right thing, even when it is difficult. Trust and respect are earned through consistent actions and unwavering discipline.
What excites you about the future, and what's next for you?
The future excites me because of the opportunity to make healthcare more accessible, proactive, and human-centric. Our vision is to build a healthcare ecosystem where quality care is both affordable and accessible to everyone.
To accelerate this mission, we plan to raise $2 million to expand our reach, strengthen our technology and clinical capabilities, and bring better, more affordable healthcare solutions to more people. Ultimately, our goal is simple—to heal more lives while continuing to build an organisation driven by purpose, innovation, and compassion.
