Tata Steel plans to invest ₹11,100 crore in Jharkhand by 2028. This significant investment covers multiple sustainability, expansion and manufacturing projects. The massive industrial roadmap is projected to generate around 2000 direct and indirect job opportunities across the state.
The comprehensive investment plan directly aligns with the company’s green steel roadmap and its goal to ramp up domestic manufacturing capacity. Of this total budget, the largest portion, ₹7000 crore, is set aside entirely for low-carbon steelmaking technologies. Specifically, Tata Steel will deploy its innovative HIsarna and Easy Melting setups to reduce manufacturing carbon emissions significantly.
Beyond sustainable upgrades, the steel giant will allocate ₹2,600 crore to expand its local Tinplate Division. An additional ₹1,500 crore will fund a new Combi mill project. These collective investments form part of a broader corporate strategy to increase India-based production from the current 27.35 million tonnes per annum to 40 million tonnes per annum.
HIsarna technology enables iron production without conventional coke or sinter plants. It has been successfully operational at the company’s facility in the Netherlands for 10 years, proving its scalability. Tata Steel’s focus on eco-friendly tech marks a massive shift toward modern industrial practices in Jharkhand. This mega project solidifies the state’s position as a premium industrial destination.
