An Innovator Who Builds Beyond Limits
Dr. Yogendra P. Shirsat
Director,
Precihole Group
In an industry where innovation often takes a backseat to tradition, true pioneers are rare. Transforming an entire sector requires not just expertise but bold vision, relentless drive, and an unyielding commitment to excellence. That’s exactly what India’s air rifle industry witnessed when a groundbreaking shift changed the game—one that bore the mark of a leader determined to push boundaries. That leader is Dr. Yogendra P. Shirsat, Director of Precihole Sports Pvt. Ltd. and Precihole Arms Pvt. Ltd. A passionate engineer and visionary, he has redefined India’s precision airgun landscape with cuttingedge advancements. He introduced India’s first Nitro Piston air rifle, a milestone that revolutionised the shooting experience and led to the development of the Achilles PCP rifle, now the nation’s best-selling PCP model. But his impact extends far beyond product innovation. Inspired by European craftsmanship, he has blended German precision, British elegance, and Spanish efficiency into Precihole’s design philosophy, setting new industry standards in accuracy, ergonomics, and affordability. Dr. Yogendra’s guiding principle is simple: originality over imitation. He urges young engineers to break conventions, embrace advanced technology, and focus on creating unique value. This philosophy has positioned Precihole as a leader in India’s precision airgun sector. In an exclusive interview with TradeFlock, Dr. Yogendra shares his journey, the challenges of innovation, and his vision for the future of precision engineering.
What’s the most impactful tech innovation you’ve led at Precihole Sports?
When we set out to reform India’s air rifle industry, we weren’t just making guns— we were crafting experiences for shooting enthusiasts. One of our proudest breakthroughs was the introduction of the Nitro Piston air rifle, the first of its kind in India. It quickly became our best-selling model, redefining performance and ease of use. Another game-changer was our Achilles PCP rifle, designed with a magazine for seamless shooting. Today, it stands as the highest-selling PCP rifle in the country, proving that innovation and passion can reshape an industry.
"These breakthroughs have set new standards in precision and reliability for shooting enthusiasts across the country," and that’s what drives us—pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.
How do you manage multiple ventures while ensuring efficiency, innovation, and profitability?
I believe in focusing on strengths and systemizing success. My role is to drive design and strategy while expert teams handle operations with precision. We have also built lean management systems that make efficiency second nature, ensuring results aren’t just dependent on individuals. Innovation, not imitation, is our driving force, and that mindset keeps us ahead—creating, refining, and leading rather than following.
Who has had the biggest impact on your engineering and leadership journey?
Engineering is a craft, and I’ve had the best mentors—without ever meeting them. German manufacturers taught me precision, the British showed me elegance in design, and the Spanish mastered efficiency in production. By blending these influences, I’ve shaped products that are accurate, ergonomic, and affordable. Precision, elegance, and efficiency—these principles precisely define our air rifles and my journey as a leader.
How do you handle failure, and what’s a lesson you’ve learned from it?
Mistakes happen, but they’re often the best teachers. We once assumed a high-quality trigger wasn’t a priority for an affordable break barrel pistol—until our customers proved us wrong. That was a wake-up call. Innovation isn’t just about building something new; it’s about listening, adapting, and delivering what truly matters. That feedback pushed us to refine our design, turning a misstep into a competitive edge.
What’s your advice for young engineers aiming to make an impact?
If you’re a young engineer looking to make an impact, my best advice is to stay curious and think beyond what’s already been done. Engineering isn’t just about solving problems— it’s about creating something meaningful.
"Don’t just follow the traditional path; challenge assumptions, experiment with new technologies, and always ask, How can this be better?"
Real innovation comes from those who aren’t afraid to think differently. Trends will come and go, but the people who truly change the game are the ones who set their own path. So don’t just build—create with purpose. The world doesn’t need more of the same. It needs fresh ideas, bold solutions, and engineers who dare to push boundaries.
