Jio And Airtel Join Forces With SpaceX For Starlink

On March 11, 2025, India’s No. 2 telco, Bharti Airtel, signed a deal with Elon Musk’s SpaceX to bring Starlink internet services to India, intensifying its rivalry with Mukesh Ambani’s Jio. The deal is conditional upon Starlink getting government approval to begin operations in the country. Airtel shared that both companies would use each other’s network infrastructure to enhance coverage.

A day after Bharti Airtel’s announcement, Reliance Jio, led by Mukesh Ambani, inked a similar deal with SpaceX. This deal also awaits government approval so SpaceX can begin operations in the country. Jio will also provide Starlink equipment in retail stores and online platforms and offer installation support.
Both Indian telecom giants now stand toe-to-toe against each other and are set to compete not only in traditional broadband but also in the satellite internet space. Previously, there were reports that SpaceX would likely join the Indian telecom industry, expected to reach $53.18 billion in 2025, and these two deals almost confirm this.
