OpenAI announced in August that it would establish its first office in India, in New Delhi, expanding its presence in the second-largest user market. This comes after the parent company of ChatGPT, OpenAI, had registered as a legal entity in India.
OpenAI is looking for companies in India to partner in a 1-gigawatt capacity data centre project, as reported by Bloomberg. The plan of building a local team in India will be a remarkable move in Asia for OpenAI’s stargate-branded Artificial intelligence infrastructure.
Moreover, Sam Altman is expected to visit India later this month and, according to reports, will unveil the new facility, generating significant excitement and interest. The timeline and location of OpenAI’s project in India are still unclear, according to a Bloomberg report.

Donald Trump announced a private sector AI infrastructure initiative, “Stargate,” in January, with an investment of up to $500 billion, and backing from Softbank, OpenAI, and Oracle.
OpenAI announced last week that it would provide 500,000 free ChatGPT licenses to teachers and students in India for a six-month period. This major initiative will be given to government schools from class 1 to 12, K-12 educators, and engineering institutions as well.
