PhonePe Appoints Srijon Biswas as New Tech Chief

Digital payments giant PhonePe has officially named Srijon Biswas as its new Chief Technology Officer. Biswas joined the firm back in 2016 and previously ran the engineering division for its financial services business. In his new executive role, he will manage the entire engineering team of the company. He will also keep reporting directly to PhonePe co-founder Rahul Chari.

This key leadership change is part of a broader shakeup at the Bengaluru-based fintech startup. Chari, who served as the previous tech chief, is moving into an expanded role. He will now become the Chief Product and Technology Officer for the entire firm. Chari will still oversee the core technology and product teams. However, he will now also take full charge of trust, safety, data science, customer experience, and artificial intelligence initiatives across the whole PhonePe group.

This structural move aims to build much better engineering systems as the popular platform grows its business. Biswas will lead the teams that handle core product engineering. Meanwhile, the Walmart-backed company wants to quickly grow its newer insurance, wealth management, lending, and Indus Appstore services. This new setup will help PhonePe manage its massive user base, keep its platform safe, and launch new financial tools much faster.

The company believes that these internal updates will help it stay ahead of its competitors in India. Over the last few years, PhonePe has grown beyond simple money transfers into a complete financial app. By placing experienced leaders like Biswas in top positions, the firm wants to ensure its tech systems stay strong and fast. This leadership shift ensures the platform can handle that heavy traffic without any sudden system errors or technical glitches.
