ZEEL (Zee Entertainment Enterprises) CEO Punit Goenka withdrew his consent for re-appointment as MD; he stepped down as MD last week.
ZEEL CEO shared in his letter, “I hereby tender my resignation from the office of MD of the company with immediate effect to entirely focus on my operational responsibilities. Accordingly, I withdraw my consent to be re-appointed as a Managing Director Key Managerial Personnel of the Company proposed in the Notice of the ensuing Annual General Meeting of the Company scheduled to be held on November 28, 2024.”
Further in the letter, Punit Goenka added that he would like to continue as the company’s Chief Executive Officer if the Board approves.
Punit Goenka’s withdrawal from the post of MD came after the ZEEL board proposed his reappointment on October 18, 2025. According to this proposal, Punit Goenka was about to serve the company as MD for 5 more years starting January 1, 2025. Goenka’s current term as Managing Director will expire at the end of December 2024.
ZEEL has appointed Punit Goenka as CEO and accepted his resignation as managing director. The company board will now discuss its leadership plans at the AGM (Annual General Meeting) on November 28.
Subhash Chandra, Punit Goenka’s father, started the Indian Media Conglomerate ZEEL in 1992. However, Mr Goenka and his family own only 4% of the company’s shares. ZEEL CEO was first appointed to the board in January 2005.
