Reliance Consumer Products Ltd – Acquires SIL Food

In a major move to expand his business empire, Mukesh Ambani, the richest man in Asia, acquired SIL Food India under its RCPL (Reliance Consumer Products Ltd). The acquisition will not involve the company’s manufacturing facilities. Before RCPL acquired SIL, its owner was Food Service India.

SIL Food India is a packaged food brand that offers cooking pastes, jams, mayonnaise, baked beans, and Chinese sauces. Pune-based SIL Food India operates in Western and Southern Indian markets, such as Pune and Bengaluru. However, RCPL intends to expand its distribution nationally to compete with major FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods) players like Tata Consumer, HUL, and Cremica.

Ketan Modi, RCPL’s COO (Chief Operating Officer), stated, “We believe that with our expertise  in consumer engagement, innovation, and distribution, we can unlock the brand’s full potential and make it even more relevant in today’s fast-evolving marketplace.”

Ajay Mariwala, the managing director of SIL Foods, said, “We are thrilled to join forces with Reliance Consumer Products and embark on this new chapter of SIL Foods. RCPL will help breathe new life into the SIL brand by expanding its reach and bringing the authentic SIL products to a broader, modern audience.”

SIL Food India, originally called James Smith & Co, was first owned by Marico Industries in 1993. Later, Marico sold SIL to Scandic Food India, Denmark’s Good Food Group subsidiary. Again, in 2021, seasonings, spices, and condiments supplier Food Service India acquired this company.
