Reliance To Build The World’s Largest Data Centre

Reliance Industries, the most valuable company in India, has earned most of its fortune from a diversified portfolio and plans to enter another lucrative sector: AI and data centres. Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance is set to build the world’s largest data centre in Jamnagar, Gujarat. This groundbreaking initiative will align Reliance with global tech giants, such as Amazon, Microsoft, and Alphabet. The new data centre will integrate renewable energy sources, leveraging Reliance’s green energy complex located in Jamnagar.

For this purpose, Reliance, the corporate octopus of India, is said to be purchasing AI semiconductors from NVIDIA, one of the leading global companies in the AI sector. The company targets a capacity of 3 gigawatts. The current largest centre, China Telecom-Inner Mongolia Information Park, has capacities under 1 gigawatt.

In the Nvidia AI Summit held in October last year, Nvidia and Reliance announced a joint attempt to build AI infrastructure in India. The U.S.-based company Nvidia shared it will supply Blackwell AI processors to build the data centre.

At the summit, Ambani said, “We can use intelligence to bring prosperity to all the people and equality to the world… Apart from the U.S. and China, India has the best digital connectivity infrastructure.”

The Indian government has also pledged significant support for the nation’s AI aspirations, investing over Rs 10,000 crore to fund startups, AI projects, and the development of LLMs (large language models).
