What is the most important leadership lesson you've learned over your two-decade technology career?
The most valuable leadership lesson I have learned is that leadership is not defined by having all the answers. Early in my career, I believed technical expertise was the strongest driver of success. As my responsibilities grew, I discovered that the real impact comes from creating an environment where people can contribute their best ideas, challenge assumptions, and work toward a shared goal.
A turning point came while leading large-scale technology and quality transformation programmes across global organisations. I saw that successful outcomes were rarely determined by technology alone. Teams performed at their best when they felt trusted, aligned with the vision, and empowered to take ownership of their work. Those experiences reshaped my approach to leadership and reinforced the importance of trust, collaboration, and clear purpose. Today, I view leadership as the ability to bring people together and create the conditions for collective success.
What qualities do you prioritise in engineering teams today that were less important a decade ago?
The technology landscape has evolved dramatically, and so have the qualities required for successful engineering teams. While technical competence remains essential, adaptability, continuous learning, and business awareness have become equally important.
Today, I look for professionals who can embrace change, collaborate across disciplines, and leverage emerging technologies such as AI and automation. Strong communication skills, customer-centric thinking, and the ability to learn quickly are often better indicators of long-term success than expertise in a specific technology stack. In a rapidly evolving environment, curiosity and adaptability remain invaluable assets.
What technology shift will create the biggest opportunities for Indian businesses, and how should leaders prepare for it?
I believe the convergence of artificial intelligence, intelligent automation, and data-driven decision-making will create the biggest opportunities for Indian businesses over the next decade. AI is rapidly becoming a core business capability that can transform operations, enhance customer engagement, accelerate innovation, and improve productivity.
To prepare, leaders must focus on building strong digital foundations, investing in data quality, upskilling their workforce, and fostering a culture of innovation. Organisations that successfully combine human expertise with AI-driven capabilities will gain a significant competitive advantage.
India has a unique opportunity to emerge as a global leader in AI-enabled products, services, and digital transformation. The organisations that begin preparing today will be best positioned to shape the future of business growth.
How did you learn to align technology with business outcomes, and was there a project that changed your perspective?
Bridging the gap between technology and business outcomes starts with recognising that technology is a means to an end, not the end itself. Over the years, I have learned to begin every technology conversation by asking what business challenge we are solving and how success will be measured from a customer and stakeholder perspective.
One project that changed my thinking involved transforming quality engineering processes for a large enterprise. Initially, the focus was on automation coverage and technical benchmarks. As the programme progressed, we shifted attention to outcomes such as faster release cycles, fewer production incidents, and higher customer satisfaction. The experience reinforced the importance of aligning technical efforts with business priorities. Today, every initiative at Testition is evaluated through the lens of measurable business value and customer impact.
How do you make quality a shared responsibility across the organisation?
At Testition, we view quality as a mindset rather than a stage in the development process. It cannot be the responsibility of the testing team alone because every decision made across design, development, deployment, and support influences the customer experience.
We build a quality-first culture by embedding quality practices throughout the software development lifecycle. Developers, testers, product managers, and business stakeholders all share accountability for delivering reliable products. Automation, continuous testing, meaningful quality metrics, and collaborative ownership ensure that quality remains integral to every phase of delivery.
Most importantly, we encourage teams to think from the customer’s perspective. When people understand the impact of their work on end users, quality naturally becomes a shared responsibility.
