Idea Behind The Show “Shark Tank India”

America’s Shark Tank is a popular multiple Emmy Award-winning & the world’s biggest business reality show. The show’s theme revolves around potential startup owners pitching their business ventures in front of sharks (top successful entrepreneurs who joined as judges) to ask for investments while diluting their stakes. Witnessing the success of America’s Shark Tank, Indian makers decided to create the same show to expand the culture of business and investment. It follows the same pattern of contestants and judges pitching their ideas and asking for funds, with recognised entrepreneurs of India, Aman Gupta, Ashneer Grover, Anupam Mittal, Namita Thapar, and Vineeta Singh. The first season of Shark Tank India was launched on December 20, 2021, under the production of Studio NEXT Sony Pictures Television.

Recently, Shark Tank India Season 3 started on 22 January 2024 after two successful seasons and funding budding entrepreneurs of India. Let’s discuss below the Shark Tank TRP of all three seasons.

Taking the legacy of entrepreneurship ahead, season 2 was launched on 2 January 2023 on Sony TV without key judge Ashneer Grover. While the theme and pattern will be the same, the big significant change to the show is 12 sharks in the judging panel. Also, there will be a special campus segment to provide students a chance to present their innovative ideas. After reaching the third season, the show attracted diverse opinions; a few audience segments think it’s biased and does not reflect the real essence of entrepreneurship, while other segments enjoy pitching and consider it a top business show.

In the judging panel, a few new names were added to the list of sharks. They are Ritesh Agarwal (OYO Rooms), Deepinder Goyal(Zomato), Azhar Iqubal (Inshorts), Radhika Gupta (Edelweiss Mutual Fund), Ronnie Screwvala (co-founded UpGrad)

Shark Tank India: A Big Hit or Flop?

The business show got mixed opinions and deep controversies around funding or judge’s company losses. However, Shark Tank TRP was ahead of other television shows for the first two seasons, positively impacting youngsters’ minds. Achieving this milestone in the complex demographics of India with a diverted focus on money and entrepreneurship increases the standard of Shark Tank India. While it is hard to say whether it was a hit or flop show, the opinion varies based on individual perception and analysis. The theme of Shark Tank India was successful as India’s first business reality show; it captured more attention than any other business show.
