The Indian food delivery giant Zomato has introduced a new feature named “Food Rescue” to reduce food waste. Now, customers will be able to order food from cancelled orders.
Zomato co-founder and CEO (Chief Executive Officer) Dipinder Goyal wrote in an X post on Sunday, “Cancelled orders will now pop up for nearby customers, who can grab them at an unbeatable price, in their original untampered packing, and receive them in just minutes.”
Mr Goyal also said that cancelled orders will appear on the app within 3 km of the delivery partner. To ensure that food is fresh, the claim will be available for a few minutes. Zomato will only charge the required government taxes. The amount the new customers pay will be shared with original customers and restaurant partners.
Dipinder Goyal also shared that foods sensitive to distance or temperature, such as ice cream, shakes, smoothies, etc., will not be available for this new Zomato feature.
The company will compensate all the delivery partners for the whole trip. Restaurant partners will continue to receive compensation for the original cancelled order from Zomato as before.
Food rescue will pop up on the Zomato app homepage when an order is cancelled nearby.
