India Greenlights Deal for 26 Rafale Jets for Navy

India has officially approved the purchase of 26 Rafale fighter jets from France for its navy, marking a significant milestone in national security. This move addressed threats as rival China grew its naval presence in the Indian Ocean.

According to the official insights, the deal is valued at around 630 billion rupees ($7 billion) and will be signed over the next two weeks. However, there are no official reports regarding the deal’s value.

Among 26 Rafale, there would be 22 single-seater and four twin-seater fighters manufactured by France’s Dassault Aviation. The deal would boost the Asian Country’s defence ties with its second-largest arm suppliers.

The French defence minister also plans to visit India ahead of signing the deal, people aware of this information told.

The Rafale is known for its advanced avionics, multi-role capabilities and superior combat performance. It will significantly increase India’s naval air power. These jets will be deployed on India’s aircraft carriers, enabling the navy to operate from both land and sea with improved precision and strike capabilities.

The purchase of 26 Rafale will strengthen India’s defence and modernise the military. This will also strengthen the business relations between two countries- India and France.
However, this is not the first deal between India and France. Before this, the two countries had signed a roadmap to boost bilateral exchange. It was regarding the Sustainable Development Goal of the United Nations Sustainable Development Agenda.
