Nykaa Founder Falguni Nayar Became India’s Richest Woman

Nykaa’s founder Falguni Nayar overtook Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw and has become India’s richest woman, as per the IIFL Wealth Hurun India rich list 2022, which was unveiled on Wednesday. With a net worth of ₹38,700 crores, she secures 33rd position in the top 100 billionaire list. She is the most successful woman entrepreneur in India and surpassed another female entrepreneur Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, founder of Biocon, an Indian biopharmaceutical company based in Bangalore.  

The 59-year-old beauty and wellness product tycoon is followed by Rekha Jhunjhunwala, the wife of late Rakesh Jhunjhuwala, whose net worth is ₹37,200 crore. The other women on the list are as follows-

Nykaa was among the top ten gainers, witnessing an increase in wealth by ₹30,000 crores to reach the fifth position. She is the only woman on the list with similar recognition to Gautam Adani, Mikesh Ambani, and Cyrus Poomnawalla. 

In terms of percentage, Falguni Nayar is in the second spot with a jump of 345 per cent. Here Ravi Modi of Vedant Fashions is crowned with a 376 per cent jump in wealth. 

On the launch of the list of the richest people in India, Hurun India explained━ the cumulative wealth of the billionaires grew to ₹1oo lakh crores, which is more than the combined GDPs of countries like Singapore, UAE and Saudi Arabia. Gautam Adani earned ₹1,600 crores per day over the last year, surpassing Mukesh Ambani and has become the world’s third-richest person

Falguni Nayar started Nykaa in 2012, intending to provide beauty and personal care in India. It is an eCommerce company selling beauty, wellness and fashion products across the website, mobile application and 100+ offline stores. In 2020, the small startup became the first Indian unicorn startup headed by a woman.
