Simple Energy, a Bangalore-based company, announced that it has started commercial manufacturing of electric motors. The company has made a significant move and has become India’s first original equipment producer without using heavy rare-earth magnets. This development comes as China imposes restrictions on exports of heavy rare earth elements, disrupting the Global EV supply chain.
Approximately 90% of Global rare earths output is under China’s control, making automobile manufacturers dependent on imports. After Beijing imposed restrictions on exports, many companies were forced to slow down or halt manufacturing.
Meanwhile, Simple Energy didn’t step back; instead, it started manufacturing motors using compound material. Their control software manages heat and torque. This ensures that performance is on par with conventional motors.
Simple Energy has put the magnet-free technology into a commercial manufacturer, unlike several magnet-free prototypes at various stages globally. The company has been using the new design, and the motors are fitted to the electric scooters, which are now on sale, indicating that the technology has made the transition from lab testing to being available in the market.

This remarkable move has given the company an opportunity during a period of tight supply in the international and domestic markets. At the same time, competitors are struggling with rising costs and delayed launches due to a shortage of rare earths.
Simple Energy maintained steady manufacturing and deliveries, which helped them gain market share while other companies were constrained.
