Recently, major telecom service providers like Jio, Airtel, and more have increased the prices of their mobile tariff plans by 25%. Further, unlimited 5G is now conditional and exclusive to plans offering 2GB or more data per day. These changes irked users, and few customers even started believing these were against the regulatory framework. To resolve these growing concerns among users, the government released an official statement.
They mentioned the hike in the prices of mobile tariffs within the regulatory framework, which is essential for the sector’s financial viability. TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) further added that the regulator monitors any changes made in the prices of tariffs by TSPs and ensures that they are within the regulatory framework.
TRAI also notes that service providers’ investments in technologies like 5G/6G and IoT/M2M for Industry 4.0 are “important for the orderly growth of the telecommunication sector.” Furthermore, regulators emphasize that “the government will not intervene in free market decisions.“
