U.S. tariff has become the talk of the town. President Donald Trump has shaken the world’s import/export sector since he took office. During his this term, he is focusing on increasing import tariffs. Recently, China retaliated against the high tariffs in the U.S. and imposed 15% on goods, especially food items and cotton.
However, India is taking measures to safeguard its export sector amid growing concerns. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman recently addressed the issue, emphasizing the government’s focus on protecting Indian exports in the face of global trade uncertainties, particularly the evolving U.S. tariff policies.
During her event in Visakhapatnam, the finance minister stated that Piyush Goyal is currently holding discussions with the Trump administration on the matter.Â
“Tariff is something the U.S. President has been speaking about. The Commerce Minister has already gone to the U.S. (to) engage with U.S. officials, including the United States Trade Representative (USTR),” Sitharaman said at a post-budget interaction at Visakhapatnam.
“We will have to see how the Commerce Ministry handles negotiations with the U.S. to ensure that India’s interests are well-represented,” she added.
On the other hand, the U.S. is seeking tariff-free car trade in India to open its Telstra showroom in two major cities, Mumbai and Delhi.
