Foxconn Eyes 300 Acres in Greater Noida for a New Facility

Apple’s top iPhone manufacturer in the world, Foxconn, entered India recently and is now exploring the possibility of setting up a new manufacturing facility in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. According to the company, it is looking for a 300-acre plot alongside the Yamuna Expressway.

Foxconn made its debut in India with a manufacturing facility in Bengaluru, and now, this new facility they are looking forward to is poised to be even bigger than the Bengaluru facility. However, the Bengaluru manufacturing facility is not yet completed, and the company is still in talks with the government over the details of the products to be manufactured in India.

According to various analysts and experts, the decision to expand its operation in a country like India gives Foxconn a safety net and better access to emerging Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) opportunities. Greater Noida is evolving into an electronic manufacturing hub due to the many benefits the place provides. Moreover, the region is also backed by supportive infrastructure and a rapidly developing supplier ecosystem.

It’s worth noting that the land that Foxcon is eyeing comes under the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority and is in the same zone where the HCL-Foxconn joint venture had previously secured 50-acre land for an outsourced semiconductor assembly and test facility. The site also offers many logistic benefits as it is closely situated around the upcoming Jewarr Airport and has good connectivity through expressways.
In recent years, Apple has seen India as the next hub for manufacturing iPhones, so much so that India will now produce iPhones worth $22 billion every year. Bloomberg had reported earlier that the iPhones produced in India in the last fiscal year were around 20% of the global supply.
