Apple’s iPhone production in India has witnessed a remarkable surge, increasing by 60% in the 2024- 25 FY. The company’s Indian operations now contribute an impressive ₹1.89 lakh cr to the economy, solidifying the country’s growing role in Apple’s global supply chain.
Now, India has become a critical hub for Apple as it diversifies its manufacturing away from China. Over the last few years, Apple has partnered with local manufacturers like Foxconn, Wistron, and Pegatron to ramp up production in India. These partnerships have helped increase the demand for iPhones in both the Indian market and abroad.
Out of this total production, India has exported ₹1,5 lakh crore worth of iPhones during 2024-25. Minister for Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) Ashwani Vasihnaw stated.
Also, Apple production in India is expected to accelerate further due to the ongoing China-US tariff war. Since US duties are much lower on India-made smartphones, Apple has the opportunity to expand its production base in the country. In late March, India dispatched five aircraft of iPhones and other products.
iPhone Exports
Of the total exports, around 70% were contributed by Apple’s iPhone supply chain with Tamil Nadu-based Foxconn, and another 22% came from iPhone vendor Tata Electronics. The Pegatron facility in Tamil Nadu delivered 12% of export consignments.
The boost of iPhone manufacturing not only drives economic growth but also creates thousands of jobs across various sectors, from assembly to logistics and retail. As the demand for the iPhone rises, India’s role in manufacturing is poised to grow even further.
With its remarkable growth, India is set to become the cornerstone of Apple’s manufacturing strategy, reducing dependency on China.
