In 2025, Amazon will spend over 20 billion rupees ($233 million) in India to expand and modernise its operations infrastructure, increase the technology used in its fulfillment network and enhance the safety of delivery, it said on Thursday.
The investment comes in addition to the earlier investments that Amazon had made to establish an operations network to reach all serviceable pin-codes within the country, it added.
In June 2023, the e-commerce giant, which is in competition with Walmart-owned Flipkart and Reliance Retail, owned by billionaire Mukesh Ambani, shared exciting plans to invest as much as $26 billion in India by 2030, although they didn’t share many more details at this time.
This new investment will be applied to opening new locations and modernising current facilities in its fulfillment and delivery network, increasing speed and processing capacity, it added.
Moreover, Amazon will also employ technology to warn delivery associates of unsafe speeds and promote fair distribution of delivery routes. The company will also set aside some of the money to increase programs that will enhance the health and financial well-being of its workforce, it said.
In March, the information technology ministry of India reported that Amazon Web Services, the cloud provider of Amazon, will inject an estimated 8.2 billion dollars into the country.
