On Wednesday, the Indian Cabinet officially approved the establishment of a semiconductor unit in Uttar Pradesh. The HCL Group and Foxconn partnership will manufacture display driver chips for mobile phones, laptops, automobiles, PCs and other devices in this plant.
The investment in this semiconductor plant is around Rs 3700 crore ($430 million) and is designed to produce 36 million units from 20,000 wafers. The plant will be built near the Jewar Airport in the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) region. The project benefits the country as it is expected to generate 2000 jobs. It is also located in the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA), an important industrial corridor near Delhi-NCR. It is also a step of PM Narendra Modi towards Atmanirbhar Bharat by developing India’s base in the high-value chipmaking ecosystem.
As the demand for high-resolution displays is increasing in mobile phones, laptops, automotive dashboards, and other electronics, the partnership and potential of HCL’s strong signals and Foxconn’s deep expertise in semiconductors will result in powerful and successful innovation in the future. This plant will serve domestic manufacturing needs and potentially global supply chains.
