President Donald Trump announced on Monday that the US was close to reaching a deal with India that would lead to the expansion of economic and security ties between Washington and New Delhi, promoting US energy exports and boosting investments in primary sectors.
During the ceremony for his representative, Sergio Gor, as the new ambassador to India, Trump told reporters at the Oval Office, “We’re getting a fair deal, just a fair trade deal.” We’re making a deal with India, a much different deal than we had in the past, “the US president said.
Donald Trump said that the relationship between the US and India is “one of our country’s most important international relationships” and that Sergio Gor would play a major role in maintaining that relationship. It’s a great deal, Trump said. Last week, Donald Trump said he would travel to India soon.
US President Trump also claimed that PM Modi has pledged to bring down the purchase of crude oil from Russia. Trade relations between India and the US soured earlier this year when the US Trump imposed a 50% tariff on Indian goods, including a 25% penalty being levied for New Delhi’s consistent purchases of Russian crude oil. This initiative from India was a part of a broader scheme to diversify its energy exports, particularly from Russia and the Middle East.
Trump recently announced that PM Modi has promised him that India would stop Russian crude oil. However, there is no such confirmation that was relayed by the Ministry of External Affairs or any other department in the government of India.
