The World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) has released the top 20 global patent rankings, in which Jio Platforms Limited has achieved a historic milestone. The Indian telecom and technology giant made a massive leap by jumping 320 places to secure the 20th position globally. With this achievement, Jio has become the only Indian technology company to ever enter this elite group, positioning itself alongside global tech giants like Huawei, Samsung, Qualcomm, Apple, and Microsoft. This rapid rise is particularly significant, as it comes at a time when overall international patent filings grew by less than 1%.
This achievement highlights Jio’s intense focus on deep-tech innovation and intellectual property. The company has filed a total of 6,817 patents worldwide, including 2,393 in India, 4,424 in foreign jurisdictions, and 1,009 already granted. Jio’s research and development efforts are heavily focused on next-generation digital ecosystems, including 5G Advanced, 6G networks, Cloud-Native platforms, and Artificial Intelligence tools like its indigenous platform, JioBrain. This technological push builds on the momentum of major infrastructure expansions, such as the strategic partnership between Meta and Reliance to establish a massive AI data centre in India to power next-gen digital solutions.
By transitioning into an intellectual property powerhouse, Jio is actively changing the narrative for India’s tech sector, shifting the nation from a consumer of foreign technology into a leading creator and global exporter of digital solutions.
