Indian festivals are driving e-commerce growth, with Amazon and Flipkart experiencing high traffic during their major sales events, including Big Billion Days and the Great Indian Festival. A mix of GST reductions, Gen Z shoppers, and high-value purchases has created the perfect environment for the year’s biggest festival season.
Indian online sales have marked a significant 60,700 Crore opening in the first week, up 29% year-over-year, making it the largest growth of the Indian digital retail sector, according to market intelligence firm Datum Intelligence.
The digital retail sector expects to cross a total of Rs 1.2 lakh Crore this year from its festival sales, with more than half of this amount already achieved in the first week. The target for this year has been compared to Rs 1 lakh crore in sales for 2024 and Rs 81,000 crore in sales for 2023.

According to Datum Intelligence, Mobile continued to dominate with a contribution of 42% of GMV, while appliances and groceries recorded the fastest-growing categories, with year-over-year rises of 41% and 44%, respectively. India’s strongest opening 60,700 core gross merchandise value (GMV) was recorded between September 22 and 28.
