Andhra Pradesh has cleared Google’s hyperscale data centre, valued at $10 billion, in Vishakapatnam. It is one of India’s largest digital infrastructure foreign direct investment projects to date.
On Wednesday, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu chaired the State Investment Promotion Board meeting, which approved a proposal positioning Vizag as ‘AI city Vizag’, aiming to make it a global epicentre for AI, Cloud, and Data Analytics.
According to an Independent assessment conducted by Access Partnership and Google’s economic modelling, the project is forecasted to contribute an average of annual ₹10,518 Crore to the Andhra Pradesh Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) between 2028 and 2032, while generating around 1,88,220 direct and indirect employment per year across various sectors, including construction, operations, IT engineering, and supply chains.
Google Cloud’s productivity impact is estimated to add ₹9,553 Crore annually, or approximately ₹47,720 Crore over five years through digital enablement across sectors. At the National level, comparative digital infrastructure projects could reveal up to USD $2.1 trillion in value addition and 10 million jobs by 2047.
