In a strategy to attract customers, the Indian food platform plans to launch its separate grocery delivery app Instamart – Swiggy’s quick commerce offering – as a separate app. Instamart will remain on the Swiggy app, but the separate app will serve customers searching for grocery deliveries. This strategy was adopted by Chinese internet giants like Meitun and Alibaba, which combine a unified app with standalone apps. The separate app will be launched in a few weeks. This news comes one day after Moneycontrol reported Swiggy introducing the new 15-minute food delivery app, Snacc.Â
Swiggy CEO and co-founder Sriharsha Majety discussed the Instamart launch in an exclusive interview with Moneycontrol. He shared that this is not a new strategy; the company has previously launched Supr Daily, Insanely Good, and Dineout as separate apps. Sriharsha Majety further shared that they didn’t imagine the company garnering more than 150 users, but thanks to quick e-commerce, the company is looking forward to a 300 to 500 user base.Â
Sriharsha Majety shared that Instamart can attain a much larger user base than food delivery. Currently, it serves 75 cities and new categories. However, the company has only done 5-10 per cent of what it aims for. If quick commerce is going to be larger than food delivery, we must learn about the early stages and improve, the company CEO further added.
