Amazon Unveiled New Head Of India Consumer Business

The e-commerce giant Amazon has named its long-time executive Samir Kumar as the country manager a month after its domestic business head Manish Tiwary resigned. Tiwary stepped down amid intensifying competition in the market.

Kumar has also been with Amazon for 25 years, and the company named him based on his dedication, skills, and knowledge. In his previous role, Kumar oversaw Amazon’s consumer operations in the Middle East, South Africa, and Turkey. Now, his new responsibilities are in addition to these.

Amazon’s senior vice president, Amit Agarwal, announced the leadership transition for emerging trends.

Despite investing over $7 billion in India, Amazon struggles to establish itself in small cities and towns where local competitors Flipkart and Meesho have gained a strong market position.

Considering the challenges, Agarwal stated, “India remains an important priority for Amazon, and I am super excited about the opportunity ahead as we continue to transform lives and livelihoods. ”

According to Morgan Stanley, Meesho and Flipkart have overtaken Amazon in terms of monthly active users on the mobile app. One report also suggests that Flipkart has 50 million daily active users on its mobile app in India, while Amazon has 40 million.

Other Amazon competitors are Blinkit, Swiggy Insta Mart, and Zepto, which offer delivery in just 10 minutes. Regarding fast deliveries, Flipkart, another successful e-commerce giant, recently started its quick delivery in Bengaluru, and Myntra, the fashion platform, has started testing four-hour deliveries.

Amazon has not started such services in India yet, which is probably why it is facing challenges in strengthening its position among Indian consumers.
